St Swithuns CE Primary School

Climate Action Plan

Prioritising environmental sustainability throughout our school is one of our strategic priorities and St Swithun’s has been working hard to reduce emissions and take and inspire climate action.

We have a Sustainability Working Group which consists of our Headteacher, Deputy Head, School Business Manager, our Eco-School leader and our governor with responsibility for sustainability. We’ve been meeting termly to create our Climate Action Plan, which will be published for Autumn 2025.

Here are some of the actions we’ve already taken:

  • Set up an Eco-Crew to support our Eco-School accreditation.
  • Replaced the lights in the KS2 building with LED lighting.
  • Audited our Curriculum for sustainability themes.
  • Trained staff and governors in climate literacy.
  • Measured the school’s carbon footprint.
  • Were shortlisted for the Oxford Sustainable Primary School award in Autumn 2024.
  • Established a partnership with the Community Larder, reducing food waste and offering second-hand uniform.
  • Offered Climate Ed to Year 6 students.

We’re being supported by the Climate Ambassador programme to develop our Climate Action Plan.
