Tuesday 5 July 2022 Larch's AMAZING trip to Abingdon School What an amazing and 'poptasic' experience Larch Class had during our Science workshop at Abingdon School on Friday. We developed our observation and measuring skills by testing out some indicators in acids and alkalis and examining the results. We also added a piece of magnesium to hydrochloric acid and then set fire to the gas within the test tube to see what would happen. Our session, quite literally, ended with a bang when our teacher showed us the effect of setting fire to a hydrogen filled balloon. A massive THANK YOU to the staff at Abingdon School for accommodating us and for this brilliant workshop!

Tuesday 3 May 2022 Singing Squad trip to Young Voices - Tues 26/4/22 Well, all that can be said is WOWWW!!. After months of hard work practising the songs and dance moves, and also having to endure the disappointment of a postponement, the wait was definitely worth it as Singing Squad and staff made the journey down to Wembley for an afternoon rehearsal and an evening performance of fantastic singing, beat boxing and street dancing for the Young Voices 2022 concert. The atmosphere was electric and taking part in a huge musical performance along with about 4,500 other children was awesome and life enhancing. Despite it being a very long day, the children simply shone; they sang and danced their hearts out. They represented St. Swithun's incredibly well and they should be very proud of themselves. It was certainly a day to remember and cherish for the rest of their lives.

Thursday 24 March 2022 Children's Mental Health Awareness Week WOW!!! Take a look at the AMAZING and creative balloons the children made following Childrens' Mental Health Awareness Week. They brighten up our school and it is a delight to see them displayed and hanging around. We looked at the different strategies that we can all employ should we not be feeling too great. These may include going for a walk, playing some sport, reading a book, getting out into nature, deep breathing and mindful colouring. On our balloons, we wrote these on the basket so we had these in our own toolkit to keep us secure, just like the basket does. We also listed the different trusted people whom we could talk to during these times. Speaking with someone can really support when we are feeling upset or 'out of sorts'. These people can lift us up when we are feeling down, and so this is why we wrote their names on the balloon.
