St Swithuns CE Primary School

International Day - 10th Feb

Tuesday 10th February saw St Swithuns C of E Primary School's first ever International Spectacular Day and what a spectacle it was. The school hall was transformed into a colourful fiesta with stalls from over 25 countries around the world and an atmosphere of sheer celebration, diversity and pride. Parents lovingly volunteered their time to share their passion and pride for their home countries and delivered the most engaging dialogue to over 420 children across the day. We are so thankful to all our amazing volunteers for creating inspiring stalls full of artefacts, photographs, clothing, facts and food for the children to see first hand and learn all about. In turn, the children were invited on a 'World Tour' class by class complete with their own passport to tick off each country visited and learnt about. Mrs Taylor greeted each class as a member of "Kennington Airways Cabin Crew" and welcomed them aboard their flight. We were so thrilled with the impeccable manners and respect each individual child showed towards our parent volunteers and so impressed with their attentive questioning and listening skills.

Throughout the day, classes also hosted their own World Buffet with food cooked, bought and provided by parents to represent a country their family is connected with. A huge thank you to all our parents for going the extra mile to provide the children with these culinary delights! We were overwhelmed with the effort and variety provided. The children thoroughly enjoyed tasting some delicious cuisine from nearly every continent of the world.

It was a truly one of the most memorable days of the year so far with children exiting their world tour with comments such as "that was absolutely epic" and "I wish we could go round the countries all day". We are immensely proud to be blessed with a school so culturally diverse and it was so special to celebrate this in such a spectacular fashion.
