Radley Zoo visit Year 5

On 13 March, Year 5 had a visit from Radley Zoo to see and learn about their collection of animals, which includes snakes, lizards, scorpions, a tortoise and a hedgehog. The children heard how cold-blooded reptiles need to keep warm, which is why they wrap themselves around our necks and wrists when we hold them. The Radley staff and students showed us how to correctly and carefully handle the animals and all of the children then had a turn holding and looking at them. We especially enjoyed meeting Lucky the lizard who was rescued after being found on the streets of Abingdon. The tortoise turned out to be rather speedy and did several laps of the hall while we looked at the other animals! At the end of the visit Radley Zoo gave us a whole snakeskin which had recently been shed by the cobra and which now has pride of place in Y5.
