Year 5 Viking Day

The Vikings took over Year 5 for the day! Wednesday 7th December saw the invasion of Vikings in the Year 5 classrooms as pupils and staff came superbly dressed ready to explore a whole day of History learning.

Our day began by learning about Norse Gods and Goddesses and sharing our newly acquired facts with our peers. We discovered more about the Viking raid on Lindisfarne and increased our knowledge of Viking shields. After we studied Viking shield designs, we made our own using runes and simple designs.  All children enjoyed baking Viking bread, in readiness for the afternoon. They took as much delight eating their ‘feast’ in the Mead Hall and listening to Viking myths before the end of their day.

Children loved the opportunity to enrich all their learning from this term. Thank you for supporting them with their imaginative costumes - they all looked amazing!
