St Swithuns CE Primary School

Our Vision and Values

Nurture Grow Flourish

St Swithun’s Church of England Primary School is a caring and vibrant place to be. Our whole school community of children, parents, staff and governors has contributed to creating our vision for the education we aim to provide.

Our Vision for Our School

St Swithun’s is a Church of England primary school, with a strong Christian ethos, which is summed up in the three words Nurture – Grow - Flourish. Jesus’s parable of the mustard seed forms the foundation of our Christian vision.:

The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.

Matthew 13:31-32

The parable teaches us that we all have the potential to grow and flourish; from the smallest of seeds grows the greatest of trees.  As a community, we welcome children and families of all faiths and none and aim to provide a supportive community in which all can grow and flourish.

At our school, children have a wide range of opportunities which help them to develop a lifelong love of learning. We have the highest aspirations for every one of our children, with each learner supported to achieve their unique potential.  We work in partnership with parents to nurture our children and their learning, relationships and personal development. Together, we enable them to develop into the best “me” they can be.

Our Values

Together with our children, staff, parents and Governors we have chosen the following three core Christian values as one way of achieving our vision: kindness, respect and perseverance.

Additional values are associated with each of our core values.

Our values seek to underpin the Christian belief that we are all God's people and that we all matter.  We set ourselves the highest standards in all that we do and believe that everyone within our school community should be valued and treated with kindness and respect and that each of us needs to persevere to become the best that we can be.

Our shared values are central to what we believe as a school and permeate our daily work and interactions, relationships and decisions.  With these values and our belief that we have a responsibility to give our best in all we do, our children are helped to prepare for their life-long learning journey.

Our school prayer sums up our vision and values:

Dear God

Help us to be kind so that we nurture each other

Help us to be respectful so that we can grow

Help us to persevere so that we will flourish

Amen
