Our Vision and Values
Nurture Grow Flourish
St Swithun’s Church of England Primary School is a caring and vibrant place to be. Our whole school community of children, parents, staff and governors has contributed to creating our vision for the education we aim to provide.
Our Vision for Our School
St Swithun’s is a Church of England primary school, with a strong Christian ethos, which is summed up in the three words Nurture – Grow - Flourish. Jesus’s parable of the mustard seed forms the foundation of our Christian vision.:
The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.
The parable teaches us that we all have the potential to grow and flourish. From the smallest of seeds grows the greatest of trees.
At our school, children have a wide range of opportunities which help them to develop a lifelong love of learning. We have the highest aspirations for every one of our children, with each learner supported to achieve their unique potential. We work in partnership with parents to nurture our children and their learning, relationships and personal development. Together, we enable them to develop into the best “me” they can be.
St Swithun’s is an inclusive school with a friendly, caring ethos. Our children are shown – and learn – kindness and respect, so that they all feel safe and supported. We create a warm and nurturing environment that provides for the needs of everyone in our community. We value every child equally and welcome all, believing that everyone is capable of great things, when nurtured with learning and love.
At St Swithun's we teach children how they learn, and the skills they need to tackle each new challenge. They understand that making mistakes is part of this process.
Our children learn the important role they have in the local and global community. They develop responsibility for respecting themselves and others, and keeping safe and well, physically and emotionally. We prepare children for life beyond school in our rapidly-changing world, and instil respect for our environment.
Children are encouraged to be curious, ambitious and have a thirst for knowledge. They know what their next steps are and want to achieve them. Our children develop strong roots in our Christian values and grow into resilient, courageous learners.
All members of our school community are valued, respected and supported. Parents and carers, teachers, leaders, support staff and governors all work in partnership to achieve the best for every child. We value not only academic success, but social, emotional, moral and spiritual growth. We raise achievement for all by providing a positive, enjoyable, stimulating and respectful place to learn.
We want all our children to leave St Swithun’s as happy, confident, independent learners. We want them to have a spirit of curiosity and respect for themselves, others and the environment. They will have gained knowledge, skills and understanding, and a positive attitude. These tools will give them the adaptability to flourish whilst at our school and in the years to come. They are able to enjoy life in all its fullness.
We have the highest expectations in everything we do. We all take responsibility for raising standards and improving pupil outcomes. We make sure that everyone understands their role in making the school successful. All members of the school community are passionate about treating everyone fairly and respectfully. Together, we work to maintain our inclusive, caring culture.
