Admissions
Would it be possible for us to come and look round St Swithun's CE Primary School before we apply for a place for our child?
Yes. Please contact the school office on 01865 415105 and we can arrange a suitable day and time for you to be shown around.
All admissions from Reception class to Year 6 are dealt with by the Admissions Team in Oxfordshire County Council, please contact the local authority to find out our admission arrangements.
However, Nursery admissions are administered by the school.
Our Nursery Admissions Policy is on our Policies Page and a Nursery Application Form can be found at the bottom of this page.

How are places at the school decided?
In agreement with the School Governors, the Local Education Authority (LEA) have decided that St Swithun's School may admit up to 60 pupils into its two Reception Classes during the current academic year.
A booklet, "Starting School" is available for collection in any Oxfordshire Primary School or from the Admissions Team in Oxfordshire County Council. You can apply for a school place online or by using the form in the booklet. This form can be returned to the school or directly to the Admissions Team.
Parents of children attending nursery classes within a Primary School must apply for a place in the main school. Please remember that it is the responsibility of parents/carers to apply for a school place. You have the opportunity to list three different preferences for a school place and it is strongly advised that you use all three preferences.
What happens if there are too many applications?
The Local Authority publishes the criteria they apply to the allocation of places in an over-subscribed school. You will find these included in the booklet "Starting School", this is also available online.
Please check this link for further dates:
PRIMARY, INFANT AND JUNIOR ADMISSIONS
As this is only a guide, we highly recommend you read through a copy of the "Starting School" booklet.
Can I appeal if my child is not offered a place?
Yes. You have the right of appeal to a local appeals committee if your application for a place for your child is refused by the Local Authority. Details of how to do this will be sent at the time of notification of places.
When will my child start school?
Children are offered full time places in the September of the school year of their fifth birthday.
What happens before my child starts school?
Our aim is to make your child's entry to the school as happy and confident as possible. You will be invited to an ice-breaker session followed by a talk from our Foundation team.
What happens if I move into the area and I would like my child to attend St Swithun's CE Primary School?
We are very happy to admit children into the school at any stage in their primary education, if a place is available. Please contact the School Office to make an appointment to meet the Headteacher and look round the school.
How do I enter my child for admission to St Swithun's School Nursery?
You will need to register your child with the school for a nursery place. This will place your child's name on the 'Register of Applications for Admissions to Nursery'. Please contact the school office for a registration form and to arrange an appointment to look round the school.
IMPORTANT - Please note that if your child is attending our Nursery it does not automatically mean that they will be allocated a place in Reception; a separate application must be made to the Local Authority's Admissions Team (see above).
