VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT FREE SCHOOL MEALS Is your child eligible for free school meals? All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are now entitled to a universal offer of free school meals. Many children in Years 3 to 6 may also be eligible.
Whichever year group your child is in, if he/she is entitled to free school meals anyway (regardless of the universal offer) you still need to apply and register entitlement, please, because all children who are entitled to Free School Meals due to their family circumstances bring an additional £1320 into the school budget to support their learning experiences at school. This money is known as Pupil Premium Funding and enables us to plan and support learning opportunities for these children.
School Meals School dinners are cooked in the school's own kitchen. Our wonderful cook and her team prepare tasty and nutritional meals every day for our children. A healthy choice is offered to the children of either: meat/fish or a vegetarian option. We also have a salad bar and fresh fruit available daily. Children are able to choose a hot meal or a brunch bag.
Packed Lunches Some of our children prefer to bring their own packed lunch into school. We encourage parents to provide a healthy lunch with no fizzy drinks or chocolates/sweets.
We have children with severe nut allergies in school, so please do not pack anything that contains nuts, this includes chocolate spread and some cereal bars.St Swithun’s is a “nut free” school. Snacks We do not allow children to bring in sweets, chocolates or fizzy drinks. We encourage children to bring in fruit as a healthy option. Free School Meals You may be entitled to free school meals if you are receiving one of the following benefits:
Job Seekers Allowance (income based)
Child Tax Credit (as long you do not receive working tax credit & earn less than £16, 040)
