Yr 3 to Oxford Museum of Natural History

As part of our topic Loving Life, and to support our science learning about animals including humans, Y3 took a trip to the Oxford Museum of Natural History.  As well as exploring the museum's impressive collection, we took part in the Skeleton Crew workshop run by the education team.  We discovered that all animals have types of skeletons (even jellyfish and wriggly worms) and that the greatest numbers of animals have skeletons on the outside of their bodies not the inside, like humans.
Recently in English, we have been writing non-chronological reports about polar bears.  As an added bonus, Chris, the museum expert, let us handle a real polar bear paw!  We felt for ourselves the coarse fur and bumpy pads that these incredible creatures have to help them adapt to life in the Arctic.
Our trip reminded us just how lucky we are to live so close to Oxford and all of the treasure it holds.
